There are very few founders in beauty whose names have become categories. Tata Harper is one of them. She demonstrated that natural skincare could deliver uncompromising performance long before it became an industry norm. In-house formulation. High ingredient density. Radical transparency. Fifteen years on, her brand stands as a cult beauty brand as name it, a benchmark for what modern skincare can be when efficacy and pleasure are held to the same standard.
I met Tata Harper in Paris a few weeks ago, and our conversation was so rich it could have lasted hours. What makes it particularly timely is that the industry has finally caught up to many of the questions she's been asking since the beginning. Ingredient scrutiny is now mainstream. Regenerative skincare is a real category. Sensitive and sensitized skin are no longer niche concerns. Longevity, resilience, and barrier intelligence have replaced short-term glow as markers of performance. Still, her work and vision feel as fresh as day one, she's found the right balance between pushing the standard, pursuing innovation, and keeping the soul and heart of what she built. Yet very few brands have had to evolve while staying this consistent.
In this conversation, she reflects on what it takes to sustain a vision over time, and on how performance, innovation, and longevity continue to redefine the future of beauty.

Your brand has inspired a deeply loyal community that feels personally connected to what you've built. What do you think draws people so powerfully to Tata Harper during all this journey?
Our Tata Harper products harness the power of cutting edge science and nature but also over a luxurious, sensorial experience. I think that creates an emotional attachment to all we have to offer. It's been very powerful for the brand. I've found that people also love authentic stories and people and brands doing things in a unique way to offer alternatives to what's available on the market. Tata Harper Skincare offers 100% natural formulas that perform. We understand that not all skin types are the same and within these high performing products we've tried to create something for everyone. Also, I believe everyone loves products that make their lives better, right ? We need more of that.
When you founded Tata Harper Skincare in 2010, you wanted to prove that natural products could be both high-performing and luxurious. How has that vision evolved over the past fifteen years, and what does it look like for the next decade?
When I launched the brand 15 years ago now, I saw a lot of really high-performing natural ingredients mixed with a lot of really nasty synthetic chemicals. It felt like all these precious, amazing ingredients were just mixed with the lowest common denominator. So what I decided to do is give you the power of nature, but also in a luxury, science-backed formula with other 100% natural and beneficial ingredients. So whether it's the preservative, the emulsifier, the thickener, all the things that you need to make products become products beyond the key actives, I also was scouring the globe to find all of those natural solutions. Our skin needs support to function at its best, and nature unlocks so much bounty to do so. We created formulas with the highest potency for the highest benefit of your skin. What's exciting is we stay true to our ethos and our formulation approach (which is really like an art,) but we evolve with the skincare needs of our customers and where the marketplace is going.
Expect more amazing innovations from this brand in the near future but always to Tata Harper's highest standards.

You've spoken about your step-father's cancer diagnosis inspiring you to rethink everything you put on your skin. Can you describe how that personal moment translated into a five-year R&D journey and eventually a business?
Before my stepfather was diagnosed I still considered myself a health enthusiast, but I guess to me health was exercising and eating a lot of vegetables. But then after his cancer diagnosis, and listening to a lot of doctors about daily interactions with toxins, and how they need to be avoided, I started looking at things in a different way. So I started understanding much more about the products that were out there, and with an engineer degree and curiosity for how things work, I became very knowledgeable about ingredients. I started reading ingredients to know what I was putting on my skin. I started looking for certifications for all the products. I wanted to eat only organic because I don't want the pesticides and the genetically modified foods. And it basically was changing a lot of things in my life, especially things that I would interact with every single day. I was looking for skincare for myself that was 100% natural but also offered results and when I couldn't find it, I set out to create it, a process that took 5 years to start.
Your products often contain dozens of botanicals at high concentrations. Why did you choose a multi-ingredient approach instead of spotlighting "hero" ingredients?
It all begins with a singular purpose: to deliver uncompromising skincare using only powerful, pure, 100% natural ingredients. Our formulas utilize high-performance botanicals and natural extracts, each carefully selected for its unique benefits and delivered at optimal efficacy. And we engineer each formula to address several skin concerns at once, targeting multiple pathways for comprehensive, regenerative results. What we've created is a synergistic system meticulously engineered to support skin health and longevity. When I started to build this company, I partnered with a lot of skin biologists to learn about skin what it needs, proper care, natural processes that happen daily and over time. It's always been my philosophy to create products that address multiple benefits. I like to look at it as the difference between taking vitamin C or a multivitamin. We believe more is better.

The Superkind range was designed for reactive skin and is fragrance-free. What insights did you gain about sensitized skin, and how did that influence ingredient selection and testing protocols?
Superkind is a line that was initially inspired by two friends of mine. One is very sensitive to everything, and the other suffers from allergies. More particularly they were avoiding certain ingredients and also looking for sensorial products that could also deliver a bit of relief and calm to their sensitive skin. And I found there wasn't much available that could relieve sensitive skin but also address more anti-aging and skin benefits as well. Superkind is high-performance skincare formulated to bring relief and resilience to sensitive and sensitized skins. Each formula delivers instant relief, helps strengthen the skin barrier for lasting resilience, and supports healthy aging with technology reactive skin can better tolerate. Whether your skin is naturally sensitive or temporarily sensitized by environmental stressors, lifestyle factors, or everyday irritants, Superkind nurtures it back to calm with a luxuriously gentle touch. Each hypoallergenic, fragrance-free formula delivers instant relief, helps strengthen the skin barrier, and supports healthy aging with technology reactive skin can better tolerate. The 100% natural ingredients are sourced from some of the world's most extreme environments from alpine peaks to volcanic springs Superkind helps skin stay calm, strong, and less reactive to future stressors. All in exquisitely soft, silken textures that cocoon your skin in comfort, transforming daily care into a ritual of lasting resilience. that it was soy-free, gluten-free we're free of a lot of things: soy, gluten, nuts, essential oils. We didn't make it just about the essential oils; it's about all of it. And then we went into a long process of understanding what were the right types of molecular sizes to have, the right kinds of ingredients. How do you mix a lot of anti-aging and cellular technology and collagen-stimulating technology if you have that type of skin? So that's what Superkind is it's an answer to that need. And yeah, the ingredient selection has completely different parameters, and it's focused on giving you what we give you for you know, if you have regular skin, we give that to our people that have very sensitive and allergic skin.
How do you educate customers about the potency of your product, and what shifts have you seen in how people understand natural efficacy?
What makes us an enduring brand all these years is hosting events and masterclasses, of which I personally get to lead in many instances, to spend time with our core customer, educate them not only on product but also on the rituals we've created to see maximum skin benefits. Tata Harper Skincare is not just products, it's a lifestyle and it's a sensorial experience. The other point is that we remain true to our ethos, continue to hold ourselves to the highest standards like being certified as Cosmos ECOCERT, and are transparent in our approach and ingredients. You can expect to hear more from us in the future talking about our product clinicals and educating more broadly on things like what is sensitive vs. Sensitized skin and why it is so prevalent these days, as well as what the future of regenerative skincare will look like (and how we'll stay at the forefront !)

You often mention the Regenerating Cleanser and Elixir Vitae serum as pillars of your routine. What makes them essential to you? How do you curate your own routine, and has your relationship with your products changed over time?
My two absolute favorite products Regenerating Cleanser and Elixir Vitae are amazing together also. Regenerating Cleanser, one of our original formulas and also a best seller, is not just a cleanser but also acts as an exfoliater to regenerate the skin. I like to apply it to dry skin (and often start with our Nourishing Oil Cleanser to first wipe off makeup and dirt from the day). Rub the Regenerating Cleanser in across your face and neck creating a clean slate for when you follow next with serums and moisturizers. Elixir Vitae is just like my dream serum, honestly. It has 72 active ingredients. I call this the Rolls-Royce of skincare. It has technology that relaxes wrinkles, that voluminizes, that helps make your skin stronger, that helps with neuro-aging, lipogenesis, and collagen stimulation. It has resveratrol, multiple vitamins and minerals. I mean, it's everything that you need. How do I curate a routine ? Based on your skin type and your needs but generally speaking, you want an amazing cleanser (you know my pick) and consider an oil cleanser especially at nightime. I then recommend you apply your serum one of our bestsellers is Rejuvenating Serum and eye creme. Bio-Barrier Eye Creme is one of the products in our Superkind line for sensitive skin. Then you choose your moisturizer. And then in my masterclasses and personal routine I like to choose a face oil like Retinoic Nutrient Face Oil. I call this like dessert the finishing touch filled with superfood for your skin and a way to seal in the other layers of products.
